The final day of competition for the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Curling Championship got started a little earlier then had all week with 4 teams representing their provincial commands having to return to the Golden Ears Curling Club in Maple Ridge, BC for a possible 2 more games. With the team from the Nutana Branch 362 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan taking first place honours after their 5-2 record and on top of the standings it left New Brunswick, BC/Yukon, PEI and Quebec to decide who will be awarded 2nd place. All four teams finished the round robin portion with 4-3 records and were required to playoff to decide 2nd place. As a result of the team draw to the button competition held during the championship practice sessions the Moncton Branch team would curl against the team from Sherbrook and in the other tie breaker would be the team representing the Charlottetown legion branch against the Salmon Arm branch team.

Martin first read of the prophecies of Nostradamus 20 years ago, and has come not only to put some faith in them, but also make decisions based in part on them.
“He’s right a lot, in my opinion,” said Martin of the controversial 16th-century figure, whose prophecies have been interpreted for centuries as foretelling various historic events. “I’m not a real book reader, but I watch any documentary on Nostradamus. It’s very interesting to me.
Did any of Nostradamus’ prophecies mention a curling team from Alberta winning 26 straight games in two Briers with some of the strongest fields ever?

Jennifer Jones had the perfect word to sum up her second straight improbable run to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts title.
“Unbelievable,” Jones said after skipping Canada to an 8-5 win over B.C.’s Marla Mallett in Sunday night’s final. “I can’t believe that we’ve now won three, and (third Cathy Overton-Clapham) has won four…it’s unbelievable.”
With the same precision shot-making that made them darlings of the curling world in 2008, the Jones foursome earned a second straight Canadian women’s curling championship against a B.C. rink that led the round robin with an 8-3 record. Jones, Overton-Clapham, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn Askin are the sixth team to repeat as champion, and the second straight after B.C.’s Kelly Scott won back-to-back titles in 2006-07.
