The BC Senior Women’s team from Qualicum and District Curling Centre have come back from Fredricton with bronze medals.
The team featuring skip Lynne Noble, third Penny Shantz, second Colleen Robson, lead Kathy Branch and alternate Jackie Clement had a fantastic start at the 2017 Everest Canadian Seniors Curling Championships in New Brunswick and headed into the championship round undefeated.
In the championship round, a loss to Alberta’s Team King and Saskatchewan’s Team Anderson meant they needed a win against Manitoba. It was no easy feat to beat Manitoba’s Team Ursel, but they pulled off a 7-3 victory. The win put them in the semis against Ontario, where they lost 4-7. They would have to face Team Alberta to take home a medal.
But this time they avenged their loss earlier in the event. Team BC ended up stealing the final two ends to take a 6-3 win over Alberta (skip Cathy King third Glenys Bakker, second Lesley McEwan and lead Shannon Nimmo) and capture the bronze.
On the men’s side, Team BC, featuring Craig Lepine, Stan Walker, Craig McLeod and Mike Pelech finished 3-3 in their pool round robin, tied for third with PEI and Newfoundland, but those two teams advanced to the championship pool as they had both defeated BC. They finished with a 4-5 record after all play.
