Dozens of curlers from around the world will be arriving in Langley and Surrey for the Optimist International U-18 Curling Championships from March 27 to 31 2013. These young, highly competitive curlers representing clubs from Canada, the United States and Japan will compete over a five-day tournament in an event dedicated for athletes less than 18 years of age.
Sportsnet announced on Wednesday that a $1-million bonus will be awarded to a men’s team if it can win all four events in the series. If a men’s team does not win all four Grand Slams, the top three men’s teams based on the points system will split a $100,000 purse — $50,000 for first place, $30,000 for second and $20,000 for third.
The 10-year agreement gives Sportsnet the rights to air all Curl BC curling championships, including the Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship, the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship and the Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships. The deal is huge for curling in BC.
